Five goals in the top Bundesliga match: FC Bayern disenchanted SC Freiburg. This was also due to Leroy Sané.
Goals in FC Bayern’s 5-0 (2-0) win over SC Freiburg on Sunday evening (16 October 2022) were scored by Serge Gnabry (13th minute), Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (33rd), Leroy Sané (53rd). .), Sadio Mané (55th) and Marcel Sabitzer (80th).
In the Bundesliga standings, Bayern overtake Freiburg in second place. FC Bayern have 19 points after their fifth win of the season, SC Freiburg 18.
In general, the people of Freiburg. They had been the surprise team for the past few weeks, but they didn’t stand a chance in the maximum game. Only rarely was there anything like a threat on goal, the best chance was still Ritsu Doan, whose shot flew two meters from the goal. One could also say: Freiburg is still Freiburg and the Bavarians are the Bavarians.
Gnabry, crisis of form, discussions. And the question: was what?
Gnabry was also part of a Bayern team which this time played as a Bayern team. For a long time it was a matter of course, but recently in the footballing life of Serge Gnabry, 27, little has been taken for granted.
He last scored a Bundesliga goal in August. This was followed by six league games without an own goal and some discussions. It was a possible form crisis, a temporary joker role and injuries. Against SC Freiburg, Gnabry was again just Gnabry. And you wondered: was what?
Gnabry himself took charge of Bayern: Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken had previously saved a Leroy Sané shot, but he deflected it forward. Gnabry seemed to have sensed it, he appeared twelve meters in front of the door and hit his head heavily in the upper right corner.
It wasn’t long before Gnabry would have crowned his performance with more goals. But in Flekken he failed twice, first with a shot from the right corner (21 °) and then again with a shot from an acute angle (40 °). And at the beginning of the second half, Gnabry also hits the post (52nd).
First season for Choupo-Moting
Better the conclusion of another Bayern player. 33 minutes passed when Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, after an excellent outside pass from Sané on the instep, passed opponent Matthias Ginter and then hit the far post with a low shot.
For 33-year-old Choupo-Moting, it was this season’s first Bundesliga goal. So far it had only been used as a wild card: 57 minutes, divided into four missions. Coach Julian Nagelsmann nominated him for the starting eleven against Freiburg: he will not regret it.
Sané meets extraordinarily beautiful
Nagelsmann will also remember Sané’s appointment as a very good decision. Sané was cleared to play as a ten again and not on the wing. The people of Freiburg never got hold of him. He prepared Bayern’s first two goals well. But Sané had his best moment when he hit a brace with Choupo-Moting in the 53rd minute, then took a few quick steps and threw the ball into the lower corner of the 60-foot goal with his left.
Bayern’s fourth goal was also beautiful, this time celebrating Sadio Mané. After a pass from Gnabry, Freiburg’s Philipp Lienhart misjudged and Mané appeared free in front of goalkeeper Flekken. He decided to lob – and it was the right decision.
FC Bayern also scored a fifth goal. The success was someone who had played very often recently, but this time only sat on the bench. Marcel Sabitzer was less than five minutes on the pitch when Freiburg’s Lienhart tried to stop a pass to Mané. The ball didn’t actually go to Mané, it went to Sabitzer – who hit with a well-placed shot from fifteen meters.
